About the Community

Friday, November 24th, 2006

A group of people who share the same vision—to educate individuals and foster an understanding of the biblical worldview—created Gutenberg College, its institutes (McKenzie Study Center and Art Project), and its press. The local ministry to university students that began in 1979 as McKenzie Study Center has grown over the years as God has provided opportunities to meet various needs. Gutenberg College opened its doors in 1994. Art Project held its first conference in 1996. And Gutenberg College Press published its first book in 2004.

Gutenberg College, McKenzie Study Center, Art Project, and Gutenberg College Press exist under one “umbrella” —Gutenberg College, Inc. Each organization has its own ministry emphasis and website. But they share many of the same staff, many of the same resources, and this Community Resources site.

This site is intended to be a “community” site in two ways: (1) it provides information and news pertaining to the community of organizations (Gutenberg College, McKenzie Study Center, Art Project, and Gutenberg College Press); and (2) it provides the common resources of these organizations to the community of people who have grown around them.

Use the links on the left to access these common resources and to find out how you can both contact and support Gutenberg College, McKenzie Study Center, Art Project, and Gutenberg College Press.

How Can I Support Gutenberg?

The eScrip Program

Tax Savings

Tax savings increase when you give non-cash assets such as appreciated real estate or securities.

Gifts of cash are fully deductible up to 50 percent of the donor’s adjusted gross income. Any excess over the 50-percent deduction ceiling can be carried forward for up to five additional years.

Gifts of appreciated assets are fully deductible up to 30 percent of the donor’s adjusted gross income for that year. Any excess over the 30-percent deduction can be carried forward for up to five additional years.

Retirement income

If you need income for yourself or others, charitable-remainder trusts, pooled-income funds, and charitable-gift annuities allow you to give an asset to Gutenberg College now and receive income for the rest of your life. After your death, the college uses your gift for the purpose you specified.

Making a bequest to Gutenberg College allows you to retain ownership and control of all your assets during your lifetime when you may need them. A charitable bequest may also reduce the size of your taxable estate.

Gifts of Cash

A monetary gift to Gutenberg College is the most popular type of charitable gift. The gift is considered made on the date that cash is hand-delivered or a check/money order is mailed (postmark date). A contribution made by credit card can be deducted when the charge is made, regardless of the billing cycle.

Because of the availability of the income-tax charitable-contribution deduction, the net cost to you of a cash gift is lower than the face value of the gift.

Gifts of cash are fully deductible up to 50 percent of your adjusted gross income. Any excess over the 50 percent deduction ceiling can be carried forward for up to five additional years.

Why Support

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

Gutenberg College is a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3)-organization
dependant upon the gifts and contributions of those interested in the
ministry of Gutenberg College, McKenzie Study Center, and Art Project.

Giving to Gutenberg College does significantly more than just provide
a sound academic education to the students and payroll to the staff
and faculty. You also participate in Gutenberg’s profound approach
to learning, which harkens back to a time in history when education
was intended to improve the heart and soul of a person. This approach
leads to spiritual maturity so that each student might stand firm in
his or her faith and engage the surrounding culture as an independent,
confident, and humble thinker. You can help provide something more
than mere job training. You can also bestow guidance and preparation
for life, which directly benefits the students, their employers, and
society as a whole.

In addition to fostering a profound learning environment at Gutenberg
College, giving to the college can benefit you in other ways, depending
on what you give and how you give it.
